Mashrafe Bin Mortuza was elected a member of Parliament in the election of Narail-2 in favor of Bangladesh Awami League in the eleventh parliamentary elections held in December, 2016. This is the first time in the world that the country's captain of the national team has been nominated and won the title of any sports player in the world. Although the involvement of the sport in professional sporting events is not new to the world's athletes. Among the cricketers, former Sri Lankan cricketer Sanath Jayasuriya took part in the 2010 elections held in Sri Lanka before retiring from international cricket and also won the election. Mashrafe Bin Mortaza took part in the Eleventh Jatiya Sangsad elections under the Awami League banner on November 11, 2012 and he collected nomination forms for the Narail-2 constituency.
